A farmer complains to police that he paid two men $15 for a
reserved seat to witness the end of the world. He explained
that the two told him he should come to a house in Cleveland
to join the other members of his church who had also purchased
tickets to see the event. When he arrived, no one else was there,
and the end of the world did not come to pass. (Would he prefer
to have gotten what he paid for?)

The James Gang, led by brothers Frank and Jesse, robs a train
in Gadshill, Missouri. Telling the train's engineer to pass
it along to the newspapers, they leave behind a description
of their great crime with a blank space left in for the amount
of the heist. newspapers cooperatively fill the amount: $22,000.

4, 1070
Roquefort cheese is alledgedly discovered by a French shepherd
who finds the sheep's milk cheese he lost in a cave covered
by a tasty mold.

A pastor in Pennsylvania, despairing of keeping records, installs
a cash register at the church door so churchgoers can see their
donations rung up. It also represents a "pay-as-you-enter" approach,
dispensing with the collection plate.

In Los Angeles, officials apparently consider "Lysistrata,"
a Greek play by Aristophanes, too sexy-or too subversive. The
tragedy is about how women plot to end a war by withholding
sexual relations during its duration. The entire cast of 65,
performing at one of the city' largest theaters, is arrested
and taken to the police station.

In New York, a 21-year old woman sues her husband on the grounds
that their marriage violates the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.
She says she has nothing against her husband, but wants the
protection under the amendment which forbids involuntary servitude.

Idaho's governor flees office after pocketing the entire territory's
treasury receipts Of $41,062.

12, 1928
Pope Pius XI receives a strange communication from Moscow. It
informs him that he has been condemned to death for supporting
the anti-Bolshevist movement with contributions of money. It
is signed by, among others, Party Secretary Joseph Stalin.
